Pedro Brito
In 1976, Dr. Brito earned his medical degree from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru; the same University where he pursued his post-graduate specialization in Internal Medicine. During his tenure at the University, he was named chief of Residents from 1979-80. Earned his MPH from the Institute for Health Development in La Habana, Cuba (1985).
Dr. Brito has over 30 years of experience in the field of public health. Previous to his experience with PAHO, he worked for the Peruvian Ministry of Health as Associate Director for Human Resources Development and as a Consultant, 1985-87. He also taught at his alma mater, the University Cayetano Heredia in the School of Public Health and Administration and served as Academic Coordinator of the University’s Public Health Department, School of Medicine, from 1980-88. He also served as director of several health centers in Peru and has provided technical cooperation in human resources throughout the Americas. He has authored numerous articles and several books in the field of human resources development in health.
Dr. Pedro Enrique Brito Quintana is currently the Area Manager for Health Systems Strengthening at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization’s Regional Office of the Americas, based in Washington, DC. Dr. Brito began working for PAHO in 1988 as a Human Resources Consultant in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since 1994, he became a Regional Advisor on Human Resources at the PAHO Headquarters in Washington, DC. In 2000, was designated as Coordinator of the Regional Program of Human Resources Development until his recent promotion as Area Manager in March 2003.
